Ancient Life
Located in Australia, Mungo National Park comprises the Willandra Lakes World Heritage Area and boasts an important archaeological site.
In 1969, Australian archaeologists unearthed the frame of a young adult female, who became known as Mungo Woman. Radiocarbon dating showed she had died between 24,500 and 26,500 years ago. Five years later, they also discovered the remains of another human, this time called Mungo Man, who continues to challenge scientific beliefs. There is dispute over the age of this man – anywhere from 30,000 to 60,000 years old.
